Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church is a vibrant, Spirit-filled congregation rooted in the AME tradition and committed to serving the West Anne Arundel County community.
We believe in a God who meets you right where you are and transforms you into something greater. Our doors are open to everyone — whatever your background, wherever you are in your faith journey.
We exist to minister to the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs of our community — drawing people in and introducing them to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
"For the Lord hath chosen Zion: He hath desired it for His habitation."
— Psalm 132:13Pastor Hoffler leads our congregation with a heart for the community and a passion for Spirit-led worship. Under his leadership, Mount Zion continues its legacy of faith, service, and commitment to God's people.
From a humble beginning of 250 faithful souls, God has been faithful every step of the way.
Over 250 family members, friends, and visitors gathered at Waugh Chapel Elementary School in Odenton, MD. Rev. Betty M. Smith preached "Launching Out," declaring the vision to become "fishers of men, women, and children."
The congregation moved to 8279 Piney Orchard Parkway, establishing Bible Study, Church School, the Steward Board, and Trustee Board in its first year.
The church moved to 1424 Odenton Road, continuing to grow in faith and ministry through every blessing and challenge.
Rev. Etoria V. Goggins was appointed pastor. During her first year, the church moved into its home at 911 Reece Road in Severn, Maryland.
Appointed Senior Pastor, bringing a rich background in ordained ministry, administration, and leadership within the AME Church.
Appointed at the 74th Session of the Washington Annual Conference, continuing the church's legacy of faith and service.
Leading Mount Zion forward — transforming lives, serving the community, and trusting God for every blessing ahead.
